There are some award show looks that set the bar for all to follow. We’ll never forget Björk’s swan dress, when Rihanna wore thousands of Swarovski crystals and not much else, nor that Jennifer Lopez’s plunging Versace dress was the reason Google Images was invented.
During the endless parade of awards shows—and, in this case, film festivals—each year, we find ourselves wondering: Who delivered ingenue energy á la Gwyneth Paltrow in her bubblegum pink Ralph Lauren dress, popped a leg like Angelina Jolie, or rocked a suit (backwards!) like Celine Dion?
While we’ve considered spiritual sartorial successors on the Oscars and SAG red carpets, the 2026 Cannes Film Festival proved a whole other beast. With hundreds of celebrities, each wearing multiple looks, over the 12-day-long festival, we had our work cut out for us.
Indeed, the behemoth of a carpet necessitated new awards: John Travolta and his litany of directorial berets called to mind the statement-making chapeau that Pamela Anderson wore to the 1999 VMAs. And it only felt right to honor Kristen Stewart—a dedicated red carpet rulebreaker—with her own honor after she paired Chanel with Converse on her most recent turn on the Croisette.
But there are some familiar faces across this edition of the Vogue Awards. Congrats are in order for Chloé Zhou who earned her second consecutive Björk Award for Most Avant-Garde thanks to her spiky, peplumed Schiaparelli blowfish dress. And, though she took home the Cher Showgirl Award last time around, Demi Moore earned a new place on our list with her Angelina Jolie-esque dress slit.
Still, plenty of newbies crossed our desks: Diego Calva caught our attention the moment he deplaned in Nice dressed in leather Ferragamo pants; Sandra Hüller, in a porcupiney Chanel look, promises an exciting awards season befitting a leading lady; and how could Lizzo’s nipple necklace not grab our attention?
