THE WHAT? Workers at Puig’s Vacarisses cosmetics factory near Barcelona are set to hold a 24-hour strike over pay disparities between employee groups.
THE DETAILS The strike, organised by trade union CGT, is scheduled for May 20 and will impact all three shifts at the facility. The union said the dispute centres on differences in compensation between groups of workers within the company and accused Puig of failing to adequately address the issue during negotiations. In addition to the work stoppage, CGT plans to stage protests outside Puig’s corporate headquarters near Barcelona and warned further industrial action could follow if no satisfactory proposals are presented. The Vacarisses plant manufactures cosmetics and skincare products for brands including Charlotte Tilbury, Byredo, Dries Van Noten, Uriage and Isdin. The planned strike comes as Puig is reportedly in discussions with Estée Lauder regarding a potential merger.
THE WHY? The industrial action highlights growing labour tensions over wage equality at a key manufacturing site as Puig continues broader strategic discussions and expansion efforts.
