This week, the global cosmetics and personal care industry highlighted continued activity across digital commerce, investment and international expansion, as companies advanced social shopping initiatives, portfolio transactions, manufacturing investment and prestige beauty strategies across global markets.

Digital commerce and consumer engagement featured prominently. YouTube partnered with Amazon to expand its Shopping platform, while Sephora launched on TikTok Shop in the US with a Drop Shop pilot. Liberty expanded its Beauty Advent Calendar into a wider brand campaign, and Armani Beauty marked its ninth year as Official Beauty Sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival.

Retail expansion and experiential beauty continued across key markets. Sulwhasoo opened its Ginseng Mansion pop-up in Shanghai, combining retail, art and the brand’s ginseng research heritage. OLIVE TREE PEOPLE opened its first US flagship in Los Angeles. Kao expanded Curél into Nordic markets as its European business continued to grow.

M&A and investment activity remained active across beauty, wellness and ingredients. Nestlé agreed to sell a portfolio of mainstream vitamin brands to Yellow Wood Partners for US$1 billion. SEMCAP Beauty & Wellness led an investment in wellbeing platform Healf, while Symrise agreed to divest its terpene ingredients business to Mutares.

Capital markets developments also featured. Wella filed for a US IPO after reporting revenue of US$2.94 billion. Shein completed its Hong Kong IPO, while Oura was reported to be targeting a US$3 billion IPO at a valuation of more than US$16 billion.

Financial performance remained in focus. Victoria Beckham Holdings returned to profit as its beauty business contributed to group growth, while Mao Geping Cosmetics reported a 26.2 percent increase in first-half revenue.

Prestige beauty and product development remained active. Shiseido expanded its fragrance portfolio with the global launch of Max Mara fragrances, while Aesop redesigned its fragrance packaging as it broadened its perfume portfolio. Cottonball targeted prestige beauty with a premium prescription skincare model, and OLAY appointed Kelly Rowland as global brand ambassador for its Super Collection.

Manufacturing and operational investment continued across international markets. Natura expanded manufacturing capacity at its Celaya plant in Mexico. L’Oréal India Technology Hub appointed Kaustav Ghosh to lead its Commercial B2B portfolio. India also explored natural farming and ammonia production strategies as pressure on urea supplies continued.

Technology and connected health developments remained active. Dyson launched a US$499 AI-powered toothbrush featuring a built-in camera, while Oura faced a class-action lawsuit concerning the accuracy of its sleep-tracking claims.

Legal and regulatory developments also featured. Amazon faced an FTC lawsuit over alleged US$20 billion advertising overcharges.

Taken together, this week reflected continued activity across digital commerce, international expansion and portfolio investment, alongside prestige beauty growth, manufacturing development and capital markets activity. From social shopping partnerships and experiential retail to fragrance expansion, wellness investment and IPO activity, companies continued to adapt their strategies across the global cosmetics and personal care landscap
