CANNES, France — The closing ceremony of the 79th Cannes Film Festival delivered the fashion goods, as stars arrived on the Croisette in sharply tailored suiting, archival couture and high jewelry statements that capped another edition of the event.

The film “Fjord” was the sole winner of the Palme d’Or from a rather indecisive — or generous — jury that otherwise gave out a lot of shared honors. The jury was headed by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, which included Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Stellan Skarsgård, Ivorian-French actor Isaach De Bankolé, director Chloé Zhao, Chilean director Diego Céspedes and Belgian filmmaker Laura Wandel.

Juror Moore wore a custom Balenciaga green column dress with a billowing cape and white opera gloves, paired with Chopard jewels, while Zhao wore a red dress from Gabriela Hearst. Negga was dressed in Christian Dior, also paired with Chopard jewelry.

Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve wore a custom look from Louis Vuitton. The actress, who starred in Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” wore a two-piece ensemble featuring a black silk crepe open top paired with hand-embroidered low-waist trousers covered in silver sequins, finished with metallic pumps. She accessorized with white gold and diamond Tumbler bracelets and a matching ring from the house’s high jewelry collection.

Presenting the Palme d’Or, Tilda Swinton delivered one of the evening’s standout fashion moments in a scarlet jersey crepe dress from Chanel’s fall 2026 collection, punctuated by a dramatic reversible Cartier choker dating back to 1997 and nicknamed “Honeymoon.” One side featured white gold and diamonds, while the reverse revealed yellow gold.

Throughout the night, the panel awarded several shared prizes, including the Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Director awards.

Among the night’s biggest winners, Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto shared the Best Actress prize for “All of a Sudden,” directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi.

Efira opted for sleek monochrome tailoring from Saint Laurent, sporting a single-breasted wool jacket with coordinating flared trousers and black silk slingback pumps. She layered on high jewelry from Cartier, including the newly unveiled “Nitelia” necklace from the Le Chœur des Pierres collection, composed of emerald-cut diamonds cascading across the décolletage, which debuted in Saint-Tropez last week.

Okamoto chose a more minimalist silhouette in a black matte silk gown from Chanel’s fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The Japanese actress completed the look with pieces from the house’s fine and high jewelry collections, including the Plume de Chanel ring in yellow and white gold with diamonds and Comète Couture earrings from the “1932” collection.

Also in Chanel was Zoe Saldaña, who presented the pair with the Best Actress award in a black mango silk dress from the brand’s cruise 2027 collection. Saldaña, who became a global ambassador for Cartier last year, paired the gown with archival pieces from the jeweler’s heritage collection.

Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, who stars in “La Bola Negra,” which earned Best Director honors, surprisingly went the nostalgia route. The Chanel ambassador opted instead for an archival white-and-black haute couture gown by Lebanese designer Georges Chakra from 2012. The fitted white bodice flowed into a voluminous black satin skirt with an extended train.

Hosting the ceremony, French actress Eye Haïdara embraced sharp tailoring in a tuxedo-inspired ensemble from Celine, including a boxy wool gabardine jacket, matching trousers, a silk twill tuxedo scarf and Triomphe pumps.

Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev won the Grand Prix for “Minotaur” and used his acceptance speech to call on Vladimir Putin to “stop the carnage” in Ukraine.

The Jury Prize went to “The Dreamed Adventure” by German director Valeska Grisebach, while Best Director was shared between Spanish duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi for “La Bola Negra” and Polish auteur Paweł Pawlikowski for “Fatherland.”

Best Actor honors were shared between Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne for “Coward.”

Other guests included Isabelle Huppert, who wore a custom Loewe black-and-white bib dress topped with Chopard hoops.
