THE WHAT? Evonik has announced plans to eliminate 3,200 jobs globally between 2027 and 2029 as part of an expanded efficiency and restructuring programme.
THE DETAILS The specialty chemicals supplier said the job reductions will affect business and administrative functions worldwide, with 2,150 positions expected to be cut in Germany. The company plans to achieve the reductions through efficiency improvements, digitalisation, outsourcing and potential offshoring measures. The latest cuts are in addition to approximately 2,800 positions already scheduled to be eliminated between October 2023 and the end of 2026 under the company’s ongoing “Tailor Made” transformation programme. Evonik said details of the restructuring will be finalised with employee representatives in the coming weeks.
THE WHY? The company said the measures are necessary to improve competitiveness amid weak economic growth, ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and increasing international competition. The programme is intended to streamline operations and support Evonik’s long-term transformation strategy.
