THE WHAT? The Honest Company reported an 8.6 percent decline in third-quarter revenue to US$84.6 million, although organic sales increased 9.2 percent and improved profitability prompted the US personal care group to raise its full-year financial outlook.
THE DETAILS Revenue declined following the company’s exit from selected business activities and weaker diaper sales, partially offset by growth across its wipes and personal care portfolio. Organic revenue increased to US$79.3 million, while gross margin improved to 45 percent from 37.3 percent a year earlier. Reported net income reached US$91.3 million, largely reflecting a one-off largely reflecting a one-off US$89.4 million tax benefit while underlying adjusted net income increased to US$3.1 million. The company raised its full-year revenue forecast to US$322–325 million and adjusted EBITDA guidance to US$25–26 million. It also announced a new US$30 million share repurchase programme.
THE WHY? The results highlight the growing importance of portfolio rationalisation and higher-margin personal care categories in improving profitability across the US cosmetics and personal care industry. By prioritising wipes and personal care while exiting lower-performing activities, The Honest Company is seeking to strengthen its financial performance and support sustainable growth despite declining reported revenue.
