Cate Blanchett embraced runway fare and custom styles in Givenchy and Louis Vuitton on Saturday and Sunday during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in France.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress attended Sunday’s premiere of “Garance” wearing a look from Givenchy’s fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection, which made its debut as part of Paris Fashion Week in March.

Blanchett wore a painted, embroidered, shredded and fringed backless gown designed by creative director Sarah Burton. The floral elements were reminiscent of a “Flemish flower painting,” per Miles Socha’s WWD review of the collection.

A halter neckline gave way to a backless statement detail, with bare shoulders and biceps met with voluminous fabric at the forearms, tied together with a black bow. Fringe flowed from the sleeves and the dress’ skirt for a heavy effect that exuded the textural elements incorporated in Givenchy’s fall 2026 ready-to-wear showcase.

Prior to Sunday’s red carpet, Blanchett opted for a different French luxury fashion look — this time in Louis Vuitton. The actress wore a custom black gown with a square neckline and sculptural statement collar from the maison, for which she’s served as a campaign star for Louis Vuitton’s high jewelry collections.

A thick black material that coordinated with Blanchett’s gown gave off a subdued modern Queen Elizabeth I homage — Blanchett portrayed Queen Elizabeth in the 1998 drama “Elizabeth” and again in the 2007 film “Elizabeth: The Golden Age.”

Courtesy of creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, the black dress was crafted with a formfitting silhouette and short train for added drama, though the statement collar was the standout element of Blanchett’s French luxury fashion on this weekend’s Cannes red carpet.

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival kicked off on Tuesday and concludes on May 23. The 79th edition of the festival will include films like “Fatherland,” starring Oscar-nominated actress Sandra Hüller, “Full Phil,” starring Kristen Stewart and filmmaker James Gray’s “Paper Tiger.” Demi Moore, Ruth Negga and filmmaker Park Chan-wook serve on the 2026 Cannes Film Festival jury.
