Paint to paper, needle to thread—like couture, fashion illustration is a discipline of the hand. This season, we once again invited sisters and artists Jacky Marshall and Blue Farrier to document the fall 2026 couture collections for us, giving them free rein to select the designs that moved them enough to pick up their respective brushes. As both artists have decades of experience in the industry, including a ’90s stint at Calvin Klein for Marshall and at Phoebe Philo–era Celine for Farrier, their take on the season is particularly noteworthy.
“I really enjoyed the season,” wrote Farrier. “I loved the detailing and lightness at Chanel and the color palette and silhouettes at Balenciaga. The model casting at both shows was inspiring too. I also knew straightaway, when the red coatdress came out at Dior, that that was what I wanted to paint.”
“It was interesting how often [Blue and I] loved exactly the same looks!” Marshall noted. “I was really happy to see Pierpaolo Piccioli be himself at Balenciaga. It felt like the authentic PP was back. I loved the purity and simplicity of the silhouettes, especially Looks 5 and 52. Chanel had some beautiful light embellishments with those wispy flowers, and Jean Paul Gaultier had some exquisite tailored silhouettes. I particularly loved the bows with long tails in the hair.”
