Lila Moss may be slightly hoarse from cheering on England’s soccer team in the World Cup this past weekend, but prior to that she lent her voice to a new partnership between mindfulness platform Calm and insulin pump brand Omnipod.
The partnership offers a suite of tailored mindfulness resources called “The Mind in Range Collection,” which includes a sleep story narrated by the model, who is an Omnipod user living with type 1 diabetes.
“I’m someone to give perspective,” she said of why this particular project was important to her.
“Calm has been a big part of my life. There’s one in particular called ‘The Gratitude One’ by Tamara Levitt, and I listen to it a lot when I’m on the plane or any time trying to go to sleep. I love her voice,” she continued. “Then obviously just being a voice for so many kids and even adults. Diabetes can obviously be very loud and takes up a lot of brain space and it’s just all-consuming and so to have something that you can take and just any time of the day have a quiet moment to relax and also feel seen and heard as well is obviously so important.”
In addition to Moss’ sleep story, there is a series of guided meditations to help manage stress and restore balance during moments of feeling overwhelmed and a breathing exercise designed to calm the mind and body, ideal for quick resets throughout the day. This collection will become available on Tuesday.
With 359 million people worldwide living with an anxiety disorder, and people with diabetes being 20 percent more likely to develop anxiety, this initiative reinforces Omnipod owner Insulet’s commitment to whole-person care and positions mental health as essential to diabetes management, according to the brand.
As for Moss, she hopes that by sharing her experience, she can help others.
“So much of what I do is about highlighting the importance of awareness and just being confident about having diabetes and not having stigma around it,” she said, adding that she receives a lot of messages about it via Instagram. “Sometimes I’ll be just going about my day, and I’ll open a message, and it’s just like really life changing. Obviously, you can’t reply to every single one, but by doing this, I think it’s almost just like that general voice of like, ‘I’m here and we’re all going through it together, and breathe in and breathe out.’”
As for her go-to daily wellness practices, she said: “If you don’t have access to a phone or headphones or anything, and you’re sitting by yourself, and you’re with loads of people, I do breathe in and breathe out four and six a lot. I like to listen to the noises around me. I feel like that can help a lot. I like to be very present, and then also, just think about like all the other people who are going through it with you, and all the love that you’ve been shown from your support system, or even anyone you’ve met.
