THE WHAT? Johnson & Johnson has appointed Aviva Wein as Global Vice President of Litigation, succeeding Erik Haas, who will step down at the end of August after almost six years in the role.
THE DETAILS Wein has spent most of her 20-year legal career at J&J and will take leadership of the company’s litigation organisation at a significant point in its legal strategy. Haas, who has led global litigation since November 2020, will continue advising J&J as outside counsel, including on its ongoing talc litigation, following the company’s recently announced agreement to settle approximately 76,000 talc claims for at least US$5.5 billion.
THE WHY? The leadership transition comes as J&J seeks to move beyond more than a decade of talc litigation, making continuity in its legal strategy particularly important as the company implements the proposed settlement and manages remaining claims.
