THE WHAT? Indonesia’s Industry Ministry is stepping up support for small and medium-sized cosmetics manufacturers as it seeks to increase exports and strengthen the international competitiveness of locally produced beauty and personal care products.
THE DETAILS Indonesian cosmetics exports reached US$473.8 million in 2025, increasing 13.7 percent from US$416.8 million in 2024. According to the country’s Food and Drug Monitoring Agency, Indonesia had 1,655 cosmetics industry players as of July 2026, with more than 87 percent classified as small and medium-sized businesses, while more than 370,000 cosmetics products had been registered by August. Government efforts are focused on improving production capacity, product quality, innovation and access to international markets, with local manufacturer PT Follow Me Indonesia cited as an example following exports of perfume and hair gel products to Papua New Guinea.
THE WHY? The strategy aims to turn Indonesia’s growing domestic cosmetics manufacturing base into a stronger export industry, supporting local brands and manufacturers as they expand into neighbouring and wider international markets.
