For the Chanel Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner, a Quintessentially New York Night

Love Story’s Sarah Pidgeon is on the same wavelength. “I am always surprised by what comes in my inbox,” the breakthrough talent said. “I’d love to work on a new skill…maybe do something crazy with my body or pick up a sport. I think the more micro you get with a character or story, the more universal it gets. The more specific you are, the more it resonates with people. Incredibly nuanced and layered characters are always something I’m interested in.”

Her co-star from the phenomenally popular show, Grace Gummer, would be inclined to agree. Stepping out in the two-tone turquoise and black Chanel pumps that everyone has been hunting for, she said: “I’m interested in bold, strong, and dynamic characters that speak to me on a deeper level; ones that push boundaries and require all of myself. But I would love to play Bonnie Raitt some day….”

Now in its 19th year, the Chanel Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner is a veritable institution—so it was only fitting that it tip its hat to another stalwart. The evening took place at the Tribeca Grill on Greenwich Avenue; the beloved bistro opened by Robert DeNiro in 1990. Having shuttered its doors last March, Monday’s celebration was a preview of the new era, as the restaurant will reopen next year under the stewardship of Major Food Group, alongside DeNiro and Ira Drukier.

As guests tucked into a dinner of steak and Dover sole, DeNiro, a co-founder of Tribeca, raised a glass to 25 years of the festival, which was founded in the wake of devastation post 9/11 in a bid to rebuild the neighborhood. Calling for a toast to his “work wife” Jane Rosenthal, the force behind it, he praised: “For 37 years, Jane has supported me, challenged me, and collaborated with me. We have a strikingly non-confrontational relationship and we almost never disagree —I attribute it to my open and agreeable personality, but I suspect it has more to do with Jane’s taste and intelligence.”

Also in attendance were the program’s participating artists of 2026—Bony Ramirez, Brendan Fernandes, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Jason Bard Yarmosky, Joshua Woods, Kiki Smith, Soull & Dynasty Ogun, Tavares Strachan, and Tosh Basco—as well as curator, Zoe Lukov.

During the night, large screens beamed the action live from MSG right into the room, as attendees—whether lifelong basketball fans or not—got more and more into the buzz. By the time dessert arrived, passed out with Knicks caps and napkins with embroidered blue-and-orange linking Chanel Cs, everyone had settled into their roles as passionate sports fans just in time for the final quarter.
