Colman Domingo put an athletic spin on men’s loafers on Monday, pairing a red-toned ruched pair with white athletic socks while out in New York City.

The “Severance” star and Valentino global beauty ambassador for fragrance opted for Saint Laurent’s Le Loafer, a slip-on style penny loafer crafted with eel leather. In the sun, Domingo’s pair looked more like a saturated red, though the shine and burgundy undertone matched the label’s current eel leather version in deep Bordeaux, which the house currently offers $1,450. The slip-on loafer has a hand-stitched round moc toe, a notched vamp and a keeper strap finished with gold-tone Cassandre hardware.

Domingo styled the ruched loafers with an athletic, off-duty look, starting with a pair of ribbed white athletic socks. He paired the loafer-and-sock combination with black Nike athletic shorts and a vintage “Jurassic Park” T-shirt, completing the casual-cool look with three delicate necklaces — presumably Boucheron, as the actor became an official Friend of the Maison at the beginning of the year — and wayfarer-style sunglasses.

The sighting also continued the slim shoe conversation that shaped men’s footwear last summer, only in a much more casual setting. Jonathan Bailey helped kick off the debate while promoting “Jurassic World Rebirth,” wearing black sandals from The Row in London and then Maison Margiela split-toe Tabi loafers in New York. Mahershala Ali and Damson Idris also gravitated toward low-profile loafers on red carpets, while Omar Apollo and Alexander Skarsgård pushed the proportion further in softer, narrower shapes.
Domingo is currently in promotion mode himself. The actor appears in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film “Disclosure Day,” due in theaters June 12, alongside Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson. He also returned as Danny in the second season of Netflix’s “The Four Seasons,” the Tina Fey-led ensemble comedy now streaming.
