PARIS — Marine Serre has gone into receivership and is seeking an investor as it maps out its next steps, the brand said Thursday.
The independent label, known for its “eco-futuristic” aesthetic and commitment to upcycling, is the latest small brand to buckle under the impact of a shrinking wholesale sector, soft consumer spending, trade volatility and rising costs.
In a statement shared exclusively with WWD, Marine Serre Sarl said the Paris Commercial Tribunal granted its request for court protection as it seeks to get back out of the red.
“During the 2025 financial year, against a deteriorated global geopolitical and economic backdrop, the company was affected by the default of several clients, resulting in pressure on its cash flow,” it said.
“The judicial reorganization proceedings place the company under the protection of the court and will enable it to restore its cash position, finance the production of its next collection, and prepare a plan for the continuation of its activities,” the firm added.
The label, which is due to celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, remains fully operational in the meantime. It recently unveiled a capsule collection with Under Armour.

“The house’s creative identity is intact, and its desirability within the global fashion and luxury market remains strong. In this context, Marine Serre is actively seeking a financial partner to support its future development,” it said.
Serre has skipped runway shows for the last two seasons, focusing on opening her first store worldwide in South Korea last October. Her fall 2026 collection, developed in collaboration with the Louvre museum, was unveiled in March via a painterly look book.
The designer, who in 2017 won the LVMH Prize for Young Designers with just one collection under her belt, has dressed celebrities including Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa in her signature crescent-moon print. She has created “regenerated” garments from old items such as tea towels, T-shirts, watch bands and silk scarves.
Independent labels have been weakened by the Saks Global bankruptcy, combined with the wave of closures and restructurings affecting e-commerce platforms like Ssense, Matches and Farfetch.
Last month, French fashion brand Coperni said it had gone into receivership as its founders work to disentangle themselves from fashion development platform Tomorrow London group, the brand’s majority shareholder and exclusive distributor since 2019.
