THE WHAT? Hermès has opened a new flagship Maison on London’s New Bond Street, creating its largest and most ambitious UK retail destination to date as part of a long-term investment in one of the world’s premier luxury shopping districts.
THE DETAILS The new Hermès Maison at 166 New Bond Street spans nearly 2,000 square metres across six interconnected listed buildings and represents the brand’s sixth Maison globally. Almost two decades in development, following Hermès’ acquisition of the site in 2009, the destination features 55 rooms, four staircases, three elevators, rooftop terraces, and more than 500 curated artworks selected under the direction of artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas.
Designed by Paris-based architecture firm RDAI, the five-floor space combines historic architectural features with contemporary design. Highlights include a seven-metre-high façade, a glass-roofed atrium redesigned with Foster + Partners, bespoke interiors dedicated to Hermès’ 16 métiers, and specialised areas for leather goods, home collections, watches, jewellery, beauty, ready-to-wear, footwear, and equestrian products.
The Maison also incorporates artisan workshops where Hermès leather craftspeople repair and restore products, as well as private lounges, gardens, and an exhibition-inspired space dedicated to the Émile Hermès Collection. To mark the opening, the store offers exclusive products and features specially commissioned artworks, including installations by British artists Jessica Wetherly and Kate Jenkins.
THE WHY? The opening reflects Hermès’ continued confidence in physical luxury retail and its strategy of creating immersive brand destinations rather than traditional stores. By investing in a flagship experience that combines retail, craftsmanship, culture, and hospitality, Hermès aims to deepen customer engagement, showcase its heritage and savoir-faire, and reinforce its position at the pinnacle of the global luxury market.
