On the eve of their resort 2027 collection “Shape Shifter,” sister-in-laws Veronica Swanson Beard and Veronica Miele Beard are preparing to christen their first Paris outpost (and 50th store worldwide) on the prestigious Rue François-I. And what better time to head to the City of Light than with a collection rife with tweed?
This latest offering joins the ongoing, noble effort out of Paris to rejuvenate the fusty fabric. Veronica Beard’s proposal? Using it for an oversized white jacket and slouchy shorts, both with black contrast piping; a miniskirt set with a gold collar; and pointy-toe ballet flats with a rounded-off leather cap toe.
Still, there are plenty of Veronica Beard staples in the collection, namely their signature dicky, something that Parisian women have long been deprived of. “Dickies are a big deal to them—and us—because they don’t have them right now,” Miele Beard explained. “So we’re going to make a statement there.” Rather than the sporty hoodie interpretation, resort 2027 offers an oversized knit scarf worn knotted at the neck.
But Veronica Beard does not let American sportswear fall by the wayside in this season. Take an electric blue chore coat fabricated in a techno twill. “We love the subtle shine of it—feels sort of like taffeta,” Swanson Beard said. The outerwear is strong across the board, finding a nice sweet spot when it nods to the brand’s European aspirations while staying true to its American roots. The highlights are the reversible funnel-neck jackets, which allow the wearer to vacillate between classic khaki and bolder houndstooth flecked with the same bold cobalt. Add a dicky if you please—we’re in Veronica Beard’s Paris now.
