THE WHAT? New YouGov research shows growing concern among British consumers over potentially harmful ingredients in everyday products, including cosmetics and personal care items.
THE DETAILS According to the survey, 61% of Britons are concerned about the safety of ingredients used in products such as food, cosmetics and personal care, while 37% say their concerns have increased over the past year. Consumer behaviour is also shifting, with 44% reporting they have avoided certain brands or products due to ingredient concerns and 32% switching to products perceived as more “natural” or “clean.” Nearly half of respondents said they actively research ingredient safety online or read labels before purchasing products. Meanwhile, 56% want manufacturers to provide greater transparency around ingredients and sourcing, and a similar proportion support clearer labelling of potentially harmful ingredients.
THE WHY? The findings highlight increasing pressure on beauty and personal care brands to improve ingredient transparency, strengthen product safety communication and align with growing consumer demand for clean and trustworthy formulations.
