Todd Snyder is always up for a challenge and designing furniture for the first time is just the latest way for him to tackle something new.

The designer is partnering with CB2, a division of Crate & Barrel Holdings, on a homeware collection that draws on his long experience designing men’s apparel and accessories.

Although it has worked with other fashion brands in the past, this marks CB2’s first partnership with a menswear designer.

The 65-piece collection, which launches Thursday, includes furniture, dinnerwear, lighting, rugs and decor. Key pieces include: the Flatiron Daybed in herringbone; the Tribeca Bar Cabinet in a light-wash oak finish; the Harrington Valet Chair; the Archivist Catchall designed for everyday objects like keys, cuff links, or vintage watches, and the Marylebone Dinnerware collection in porcelain. Other hero products include a leather dining chair and round dining table, an atelier brass floor lamp and semi-flush fixture, pied-à-terre round and floor mirrors, etched red wine glasses and a glass decanter, and gathered velvet pillows and a geo hemp jute rug.

The Todd Snyder x CB2 line includes furniture, lighting and decorative home accessories.

“It’s been incredible to explore one of my first passions, interior design, through this collaboration with CB2,” Snyder said. “My mother was an artist and interior designer, and she always encouraged my interest in both fashion and interiors. From the start, I channeled these two disciplines in my stores to curate one-of-a-kind spaces. For my first Todd Snyder store, I shopped for all the furniture myself and enjoyed spending time discovering hidden gems at antique shops and flea markets, ultimately selling them alongside my collections.”

As a result, he said, partnering with CB2 came naturally. “It’s an extension of the brand and the pieces have the same vibe as what we’re doing in apparel.”

Snyder said CB2 shares the same “dedication to craftsmanship, as well as my belief that great design is a reflection of individuality. Both sentiments are key to my fashion collections, which is why it’s so wonderful to be able to bring those ideas into the home through this collaboration.”

He said that as his brand has opened stores — there are currently 23 units around the U.S., with more in the hopper — he carefully selected an assortment of contemporary and vintage furnishings and accessories that were distinct to each. “We always try to curate the space for the environment,” he said. “But each has its own vibe. The stores look like Todd Snyder but they’re not cookie cutter.”

In the beginning, he worked with ABC Carpet & Home as well as 1stDibs to select pieces to decorate the stores that were also for sale. “But we had to stop that,” he said.

Today, the stores are decorated with a mix of 50 percent manufactured products and 50 percent vintage or found pieces. And while Snyder did design a handful of the tables, benches and lounges in his stores, it was “nothing to this level. This is the first time I’m diving into it in a full way. It’s challenging, but familiar.”

He said his goal was to create a collection that “fit well together, but didn’t feel like a set. The pieces are eclectic, but intentional.”

The line is made in North Carolina and some of the materials are the same as used in his apparel such as the shearling and herringbone or glen plaid fabrics.

The intent of the collection is built around the idea of a town house, he said. “There are town houses everywhere, but how do you make a cool mix of urban-meets-cozy, with menswear-slated designs? I wanted it to be modern but still familiar.”

And he appears to have succeeded.

“Todd was a natural partner because he has built a distinct point of view around American style, craftsmanship and collecting,” said Ryan Turf, president of CB2. “He has a strong connection with the modern male consumer and a unique ability to bring together fashion, interiors and vintage influences. That resonated with us because CB2 has always had a strong male customer base. We see consumers who are increasingly engaged in the design of their homes and approaching their spaces with the same level of intention they bring to their personal style.”

Turf said the company was also drawn to Snyder’s ability to mix vintage and contemporary influences in the environments he creates. “It’s a philosophy that aligns closely with how many CB2 customers design today. They are looking to create homes with character and personality, layering well-designed furnishings with art, collected objects and meaningful pieces that reflect their individual style.”

In the past, CB2 has worked with other fashion designers, including Matthew Williamson and Azeeza, each of which “has brought a unique perspective to the home,” Turf said. “What makes fashion designers such compelling partners is that many of the core principles of great fashion and great interiors are actually quite similar. Both disciplines require a deep understanding of materiality, craftsmanship, sourcing, proportion and how different elements come together to create a cohesive point of view. Whether you’re designing a jacket or a sofa, you’re making decisions about texture, silhouette, construction and the emotional response a piece evokes.”

He said that fashion designers “also tend to have a highly developed eye for curation. They draw inspiration from art, architecture, travel, vintage references and global craftsmanship, and they’re constantly thinking about how to create a complete lifestyle experience rather than a single product.”

He said Snyder “brought all of those qualities to this collection. His menswear background and appreciation for craftsmanship translated naturally into the home. Many of the principles that define his work — from the influence of Savile Row tailoring to his focus on proportion, texture, silhouette and finishing details — became an inspiring starting point for the collection and helped shape pieces that feel thoughtful, refined and equally suited for everyday living and entertaining.”

Turf said the Todd Snyder x CB2 collection was initially conceived as a limited-edition collection, but the partnership could continue if it proves successful.

“At CB2, we’ve had the opportunity to build ongoing relationships with collaborators whose point of view resonates with our customers,” he said. “Lenny Kravitz is a great example of a creative partnership that has evolved over time. For us, the strongest collaborations are the ones where there is a genuine alignment in vision and where we believe customers can immediately understand the world we’re creating together, which is exactly what we found in this partnership. We’re thrilled with the result and look forward to seeing how customers respond.”

The Todd Snyder x CB2 collection will be sold at CB2 stores nationwide and online with prices ranging from $12.95 to $3,999. Pieces will also be featured in Todd Snyder stores and online.
