Tate McRae interrupted a run of barely-there sandals with a far more embellished Chanel pair Sunday at the Skylrk World Cup after party at The Twenty Two New York.

The “greedy” singer opted for Chanel’s Interlocking CC Logo Slingback Sandals from the house’s cruise 2021 collection. The metallic gold pair had an open toe and a cagelike upper made from slim leather bands. Camellia appliqués and interlocking CC hardware decorated the vamp, while a narrow buckled strap wrapped behind the heel. The sandals were finished with slim stilettos.

McRae paired the six-year-old sandals with all-black everything, including Saint Laurent’s black laced slipdress. The semi-sheer ribbed silk jersey style had adjustable spaghetti straps, scalloped lace around the V neckline and a matching lace edge at the hem. She carried Valentino’s black leather DeVain shoulder bag, marked by a gold VLogo, and added a Panthère de Cartier watch with slim gold bracelets.
Virginie Viard included the sandals in “Balade en Méditerranée,” the cruise 2021 collection Chanel presented digitally in June 2020 after the pandemic forced the house to cancel its planned Capri show. Chanel recreated a Mediterranean beach in Paris, and Viard described the vacation wardrobe as “charming, sexy, easy and refined.” She also made the case for repeat wear: “If you have something you like from Chanel, it always works. You don’t need to always buy something new.”

McRae’s recent evening shoes have skewed far more minimal. She wore Jacquemus’ double-heel Les Doubles sandals on July 18, silver Gianvito Rossi Manhattan sandals in an Instagram post at the beginning of the month and Alaïa’s mirrored Infradito thong sandals at the Knicks-Spurs game on June 10. Across all three looks, only a few narrow straps or a toe post covered the foot.

On Sunday, McRae opted for the decorative outlier. She still stayed with an open toe, slingback and metallic finish, but Chanel packed the upper with layered bands and flower clusters. The contrast was visible at the party, too: Hailey Bieber paired a vintage red Dior slip dress with black thong kitten heels.
