THE WHAT? Shopify issued a stronger-than-expected third-quarter outlook after second-quarter revenue and adjusted profit both came in above market expectations.
THE DETAILS Shopify reported Q2 revenue of US$3.58 billion, up 34% year-on-year and ahead of analysts’ expectations of US$3.45 billion, while adjusted earnings of US$0.42 per share also beat the US$0.40 consensus estimate. Gross merchandise volume increased 32% to US$115.57 billion. Looking ahead, Shopify expects third-quarter revenue to grow in the low-30% range, above analysts’ forecast of 26.3%, while gross profit is expected to increase in the mid-to-high 20% range. The company said AI-driven traffic and orders continued to accelerate, supporting merchant growth across its platform.
THE WHY? The stronger-than-expected Q2 performance and upgraded Q3 outlook reinforce confidence in Shopify’s growth trajectory, suggesting that investment in AI and merchant services is translating into higher platform activity rather than creating margin pressure that outweighs growth.
