THE WHAT? Shiseido has announced plans to close the Hsinchu Factory operated by Taiwan Shiseido and transfer production to its manufacturing facilities in Japan as part of its global operational restructuring strategy.
THE DETAILS The Hsinchu Factory, located in Hsinchu Industrial Park in Taiwan, currently manufactures skincare products for Taiwan and other Asia Pacific markets. Shiseido said production at the site will end in the first quarter of 2027, with full closure scheduled for the second half of 2027. The company plans to shift manufacturing to domestic facilities in Japan, including its Nasu Factory, to improve global capacity utilization and cost efficiency. Taiwan Shiseido, in which Shiseido holds a 51% stake, will instead focus on strengthening its local distribution business. The move forms part of Shiseido’s 2030 Medium-Term Strategy and its “Evolve Global Operations” initiative aimed at optimizing production and logistics globally.
THE WHY? The closure reflects Shiseido’s efforts to streamline manufacturing operations, improve efficiency and focus resources on higher-value growth initiatives under its long-term transformation strategy.
