After selling biotech start-up Revela to Oddity, Dr. Evan Zhao is back with his next venture: hair care.

Designed for women experiencing visible hair thinning and changes in hair vitality and rooted in advanced molecular discovery, biotech hair care brand Re:You launches Wednesday with three product stock keeping units: Dual-Path Hair Revival Serum, $141, and Dual-Path Brow Serum and Dual-Path Lash Serum, both $128.

Available for purchase on the brand’s DTC website — the lash serum will also be on TikTok Shop — the products were developed through the screening of 20 million compounds. Powered by Novogro, the formulation simultaneously targets multiple biological pathways that influence hair health and vitality.

In a 150-person clinical trial, 90 percent of users saw a decrease in hair loss in the shower after three months, while 86 percent of users saw new growth in areas where the serum was applied in three months.

“We have seen a lot of biotechnology-based products that are not actually innovations. They’re just rebranding of plant-based materials,” Zhao said in an interview. “We put $5 million into research and development of this product. It was very expensive and was a big risk, but we saw really positive results from it, and that’s why we decided to launch the product.”

His cofounders are Deeba Daneshmayeh, Yvonne Yao and Lan Tang, while Dr. David Zhang is chief science officer, the same title that he held at Revela.

Hair growth products — inclusive of non-OTC offerings — grew 9.8 percent in the U.S. in the past 12 months, reaching $896.6 million, data from NIQ showed.

Zhao also founded a pet care brand and plans to launch a new brand every few years, backed by $11 million in research funding with investors ranging from Mars to Maveron and more.

Oddity acquired Revela in 2023 for $76 million. Founded in 2021, the biotechnology platform discovers new molecules for consumer wellness applications using artificial intelligence.
