Nike’s Pegasus Premium Increases Lifestyle Appeal With Rebuilt Upper

Nike Running’s relaunch has been the most consistent bright spot amid the company’s efforts to turnaround its business with three consecutive quarters of revenue increasing by at least 20 percent. Not all of its shoes have been a hit, though, as the Pegasus Premium in particular has been given disappointing reviews. New construction, however, could give the shoe new life in the lifestyle sector.

The Nike Pegasus Premium SP features a retooled upper veering on technical. A more hearty gridded material is used for the base of the upper, while the taped overlay running across its lower half likewise appears as if it’ll supply more security.

The sole unit remains unchanged, and color-blocking on two leaked colorways has the midsole matching the overlay to essentially split the shoe in half visually. One iteration features a black upper with white overlay and midsole, while the other reverses the arrangement of the two colors.

Although the changes to the upper would suggest a new trail bent for the Pegasus Premium, the lack of additional tread on the outsole would make more sense for more of a gorp-leaning approach to everyday wear. Also indicating a lifestyle intent is that images leaked via the boutique A Few rather than a running specialty store.

Upon its debut at the beginning of 2025, the Pegasus Premium was the first sneaker to ever feature a curved Air Zoom unit at full-length. The technology then carried over to the Pegasus 42 last month, although the tech isn’t visible from the exterior.

Historically, the Pegasus line has been Nike’s most successful. But under a new arrangement centered upon the Vomero, Structure and Pegasus, it’s been the max-cushioned Vomero series that’s led the charge and drawn the most reave reviews.

The Nike Pegasus Premium SP doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date but is expected to release soon. Pricing is set at $220.
