Marcus Jordan Announces Trophy Room Closure

Marcus Jordan, son of Michael Jordan and owner of Trophy Room, has announced the closure of his Orlando, Fla., sneaker boutique.

Marcus Jordan announced the news Monday in a letter posted to Instagram. Although the store will close, online sales will continue under a different brand name. Jordan said he’ll keep the trademark and intellectual property for Trophy Room as he steps back and teased the possibility an eventual return.

Trophy Room’s first location was open from 2016 to 2019 at the Disney Springs shopping complex. Business continued exclusively online for three years after the closure until the opening of a downtown door in 2022.

Jordan Brand collaborated with Trophy Room numerous times over the past 10 years, beginning with an Air Jordan 23 for the store’s grand opening. Their last release together came in 2024 through an Air Jordan 1 Low inspired by Michael’s rookie card, and an Air Jordan 6 collaboration expected to release last year never came to fruition.

For many sneakerheads, Trophy Room is known best for accusations in 2021 for engaging in a practice known as “backdooring.” Because so many pairs of that year’s Air Jordan 1 collaboration wound up on the resale market prior to the release date, and because so few people reported actually landing the sneakers upon launch, allegations spread that the shoes had been sold privately and early to select people.

Complex reported at the time some of those very buyers confirmed they were allowed to purchase pairs for up to $1,200 a pop.

Going forward, Jordan said he’ll now “focus on new opportunities that better align with where I am today — both professionally and personally.”
