THE WHAT? Lush Cosmetics has expanded its North American parental leave policy to provide eligible employees with up to 26 weeks of fully paid leave, extending the benefit to retail, manufacturing and support roles.
THE DETAILS The policy applies to full-time employees working at least 30 hours per week who have been with Lush for a minimum of one year. Unlike the previous policy, which differentiated between birthing and non-birthing parents and was largely limited to corporate and retail management roles, the expanded benefit provides six months of paid leave to all eligible new parents. Lush said the policy was developed partly in response to employee feedback and follows a similar six-month parental leave benefit available to its UK workforce since 2017.
THE WHY? The expansion forms part of Lush’s employee retention strategy in the US retail sector, where high staff turnover remains a challenge, with the company aiming to improve financial security for new parents and encourage employees to return and progress within the business.
