Kristen Stewart took her rare sneaker habit back to Cannes on Saturday, arriving at the “Full Phil” photocall in vintage Nike saddle shoes instead of the usual festival pump.

The actor and director posed at Palais des Festivals during the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival in a black-and-white pair of Nike sneakers that read as a saddle shoe, a low-profile lace-up style that sits somewhere between an oxford and an early sneaker.

Stewart’s pair had white leather through the rounded toe and heel, a black saddle-shaped midfoot panel wrapping the laces, cream flat laces and exposed Nike branding on both the tongue and outer side. Small perforations dotted the front of the toe box, while a thin black stripe ran through the aged off-white midsole. Similar resale pairs are often listed from 1988, though the exact year of Stewart’s pair was not immediately confirmed.

The Nikes also landed just outside Cannes’ strictest footwear rule. For evening screenings at the Grand Théâtre Lumière, the festival allows elegant shoes or sandals but bars sneakers from the red carpet entrances; Stewart wore hers at a photocall, where the choice read less like a rule break than a very Stewart way of bending the festival’s usual shoe expectations.

The shoes made sense for Stewart, who spent a lot of last year’s Chronology of Water” run treating vintage sneakers as part of the press wardrobe rather than the change-out option. In November, she wore rare green-and-white Adidas Rekord sneakers at a Film Independent event in West Hollywood. A few weeks earlier, she chose red Converse sneakers for another screening tied to the film, a pair close to the old-school running shoes she has spoken about collecting.

Cannes gave the Nike pair a sharper frame because Stewart wore them with Chanel couture. Her look, a sheer two-piece set from Matthieu Blazy’s spring 2026 couture collection for Chanel, featured short-sleeve collared top layered over a pale underpiece and a transparent skirt with a darker, open-weave finish. The set kept the house’s tweed language in view, but Stewart’s oxfords pulled it away from the polished sandal or pointed pump expected at a Cannes daytime call.

That tension has long been part of Stewart’s red carpet shoe vocabulary. She has worn plenty of Chanel heels, but she is just as likely to turn a formal appearance into a sneaker moment, especially when the shoes have a specific archive pull. The Nike saddle style also landed outside the more obvious heritage-sneaker lane that has made Adidas Sambas, Vans and slim-soled reissues such reliable fashion currency.

“Full Phil,” Quentin Dupieux’s English-language dark comedy, stars Stewart opposite Woody Harrelson, with Stewart playing the daughter of a wealthy American businessman whose Paris trip goes sideways. An official U.S. release date has not been announced.
