Julia Fox nodded to her past self at the “One Night Only” premiere in New York City on Monday, where she joined lead actor Callum Turner and his wife Dua Lipa on the red carpet.
Taking cues from her early 2000s to late 2010s beauty, Fox donned a messy half-up, half-down hairdo and skinny, straight-lined brows. After sporting bleached brows on and off for the last year, the “Uncut Gems” star returned to a dark chocolate shade, the same as her hair.

The full aesthetic — tired eyes, faded liner, pale skin and chapped lips, included — evoked quintessential Y2K “indie sleaze,” a party girl, who’s had to pull herself together post-nightclub. Though Fox has regularly tapped makeup visionary Jake Dupont to construct her glam for major red carpets and public appearances, the artist has not yet been confirmed as the architect behind this look. John Novotny, on the other hand, took to Instagram to confirm his hands in her hairstyle from last night.

In a photo of Fox with her costar Turner, a camouflage claw clip holding up the top half of her hair was visible. The effortless updo paired well with Fox’s outfit, which featured a knit cardigan over a sheer bralette, a two-tiered, inside-out skirt and moto boots. The long-sleeved top was held together by a flimsy safety pin, adding to the “undone” vibe.

In a previous interview with WWD, Fox confessed to being something of a hoarder when it comes to clothes. When asked whether she does routine closet clean-outs, the director said: “Never. I just let stuff pile up. I rewear the same three things, because they happen to be at the top of the pile. That’s how I was getting dressed for many years. There are about 450 items. Some of it is PR gifting stuff. But most of it are designer pieces that I have had for a really long time.”
On her controversial opinion that aging is “in” now, Fox pointed to the rise in “elderly woman” — or 40-plus, as she clarifies it — on runways and magazine covers. “As women, we need to stop building this prison around ourselves. We’ve been taught to believe that aging is this horrible thing, but really, you’re living. You’re alive — that is amazing,” she said. “Women just look better, if they let themselves age. That’s just my opinion. I know a lot of people aren’t going to like it. Listen, I have had plastic surgery so many times. I’m not saying, ‘Don’t do what you want to do,’ or ‘Don’t fix what you want to fix.’ Just make sure that it’s not coming from this place, where you’re not good enough the way you are. You are.”
