Irina Shayk’s Pre-Met Gala Shoes Go From Gold Pumps to Strappy Sandals

Irina Shayk moved through Met Gala weekend with two very different party shoes before Monday night’s main carpet: a gold-capped transparent pump for Vogue’s pre-Gala party on Saturday night, then a black buckled sandal with a harder edge for Teyana Taylor’s Times Square event later on.

For the Bezos’ party, Shayk wore Gianvito Rossi’s Diana slingback pumps with an Issey Miyake Fold Pleats Dress. The white dress gave her a sculptural base, with a high ribbed neckline, a close sleeveless bodice and folded pleated panels that opened into a rounded, almost petal-like shape through the skirt.

The Diana pump kept the foot nearly bare. Gianvito Rossi’s design combines a pointed gold chromed toe cap with a see-through Plexi upper, a slim slingback strap and the brand’s Ribbon buckle. A 105 mm flare stiletto heel brought the same metallic finish to the back of the shoe, turning the pump into more than a nude illusion heel.

By Saturday night, Shayk had shifted the mood. For Teyana Taylor’s pre-Met Gala party, the model wore a black minidress with an asymmetrical neckline, sharp cutouts through the bodice and hips, and a layered, sculptural skirt.

She added Ann Demeulemeester’s black Nel sandals, a 90 mm style with stacked buckle straps, an open toe, a pointed sole and a mule-like back. The shoe’s multiple leather bands gave the look a tougher, almost harnessed finish, especially against the abbreviated black dress and Shayk’s red lip.

Shayk’s Met Gala shoes have usually done some of the work of pushing the look in one direction or another. Last year, Aquazzura heels disappeared under the crystal mesh of her Swarovski dress, while 2023 gave her one of her most discussed Met Gala footwear choices: ivory ballet flats worn with an archival Yohji Yamamoto gown. Later that night, she went much less restrained in crystal-covered Timberland x Jimmy Choo boots. Her 2022 Burberry look put black cowboy boots under a leather-heavy outfit, and in 2021, she kept the shoe line quieter with nude Stuart Weitzman sandals beneath Jeremy Scott’s floral Moschino gown.

The 2026 Met Gala, set for Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrates the Costume Institute’s “Costume Art” exhibition. The show, which opens to the public May 10, examines the relationship between fashion, art and the body, giving the weekend’s pre-parties their usual mix of celebrity dressing, designer visibility and red carpet prelude.
