Inside Tennis Stars Katie Boulter and Alex De Minaur’s Romantic Tuscan Wedding

De Minaur spent the morning walking the couple’s dog—and ring bearer—Poppy, with his brother, before the couple exchanged vows in front of just eight guests. “It was perfect, so intimate,” he recalls. Both bride and groom chose looks that nodded to the location: Boulter wore beloved British brand Vivienne Westwood, and de Minaur a midnight-blue, single-breasted Ralph Lauren tuxedo, chosen to feel more English in tone than the look he had planned for the Italian celebrations. After the ceremony, the couple headed to a nearby manor for photographs before rejoining their family at the local pub for dinner.

The next day, the couple flew to Tuscany, giving themselves one quiet day together at the venue—Borgo Santo Pietro, an 800-year-old farmhouse and estate—before their guests began arriving. The couple worked with planners Studio Sorores to put together an itinerary that encouraged their guests to immerse themselves fully in the picturesque surroundings. A rehearsal dinner in the estate’s kitchen gardens set the tone: a long table groaning with family-style Italian dishes, made using ingredients gathered from the grounds (Borgo Santo Pietro produces its own vegetables, fruit, wine and chocolate). Guests tucked into burrata, risotto and lemon tart while a traditional Italian band played. De Minaur wore a relaxed linen look—pleated pants and a navy striped Ralph Lauren polo—while Boulter chose a sleek, open-backed gown by The Own Studio, a deliberate contrast to her more elaborate look for the day itself.

Boulter had spent months working with the British bridal designer Caroline Castigliano on a dress that was built from the corset outwards: a sweetheart neckline, a flowing lace skirt built from multiple layers, and detailing inspired by English roses. Woven into the dress, by Boulter’s own hand, was a piece of fabric taken from her late grandmother’s own wedding dress. “I wanted to feel like she was with me in Italy,” she explains, “and it was my grandmother who taught me how to sew.” A lace-trimmed veil that fell, in Boulter’s words, “like a waterfall down my back”, completed the look. “It was everything I envisioned,” she says of finally trying the finished dress on. As for de Minaur’s response when he first glimpsed his bride walking down the aisle? “It felt like a fairy tale.” He was wearing another suit by Ralph Lauren, this time a double-breasted tuxedo. “I wanted to feel like James Bond,” he says. Mission accomplished.

The ceremony itself, held among ruins on the estate, eschewed traditional readings to center on the couple’s own story instead: a compilation, as de Minaur puts it, of “how it all kind of came together, what our values are, what we think is important.” Family, they agree, was at the heart of the day. And no one was more central, quite literally, than the groom’s grandmother, who spent the reception dancing with such enthusiasm and stamina that Boulter calls her the wedding’s unlikely MVP. Alongside her was her husband, de Minaur’s grandfather, who, despite struggling to walk due to recovering from a stroke, rose from his seat to film her dancing. A moving example of what the future holds. “That is the kind of love that I want,” Boulter says, beaming.
