THE WHAT? Henkel’s Packaging Recyclab in Shanghai has received accreditation from the cyclos-HTP Institute (CHI), enabling it to conduct EU-recognised paper packaging recyclability testing and issue external assessment reports for customers across Asia-Pacific.
THE DETAILS The Shanghai facility can now apply the recognised CEPI/4evergreen and CHI testing protocols, allowing packaging manufacturers, converters and brand owners in Asia-Pacific to assess paper packaging against European recyclability standards locally rather than sending samples to Europe. The accreditation expands Henkel’s global Packaging Recyclab network, which also includes its Düsseldorf facility, and comes as companies prepare for the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR); Henkel is also preparing to extend the Shanghai laboratory’s capabilities to plastic packaging recyclability assessments.
THE WHY? The accreditation gives Asia-Pacific packaging exporters a faster and more accessible route to demonstrating compliance with increasingly stringent EU recyclability requirements, while strengthening Henkel’s position as a technical partner for packaging design, testing and regulatory readiness.
