Hailey Bieber Is Healing Her Blisters With…Pimple Patches?

Hailey Bieber has established herself at the forefront of contemporary beauty with Rhode; coining “glazed donut” skin and that now-signature slick skin glow, and releasing buzzy products like her holy grail peptide lip tints, glazing milk, and pimple patches. She’s also stayed open about her own skin struggles, like those perioral dermatitis flare-ups, and pretty frequently shares tips and tricks for treatments and how she uses her makeup: smart concealer placement, blush hacks, PRP and PRF injections.

Back in April, Rhode launched those pimple patches: hydrocolloid-infused stickers, designed with her husband Justin Bieber, which absorb excess oil and minimize the appearance of zits. They create a protective bubble over blemishes, shielding against any stressors, while making spots smaller, flatter, and less red underneath.

And while it’s become a lot more socially acceptable to wear these pretty patches on your visage (the Rhode sets come in candy-colored daisy, bubble, shroom, curve, and jelly bean shapes), Hailey Bieber has picked up on another use for them: caring for blisters.

The Rhode founder posted a photo of her feet—avec several colorful pimple patches and a trending sky blue pedicure—to her Instagram Stories. “Can confirm works for blisters,” she wrote over the pic.

“I’m always telling clients that it’s best to leave spots alone,” says Kasha Malyckyj, facialist and founder of Syla Skin. “Rather than trying to dry them out or squeeze them, give the skin the chance to do its thing, like calming down or coming to a head. Pimple patches are particularly good if you’re prone to picking (we all do it!) as they create a shield that makes it much harder to interfere with the spot, reducing the risk of scarring and helping it heal properly. The same principle applies to blisters.”

Hydrocolloid patches work on raw, sore blisters by absorbing the weepy blister fluid, and creating a moist, cushioned, and importantly clean environment. It’s like a protective second skin, helping to avoid any friction, shielding against bacteria, and accelerating the healing process without forming unsightly and uncomfy scabs. It also works against scarring. A pimple patch absorbs wound drainage, so they can also remain in place much longer than traditional bandages. A 2014 systematic research review found that a hydrocolloid patch is highly effective for breaking down damaged wound tissue, providing a barrier to heal wounds, reducing pain, and supporting new tissue and collagen.
