Everyday Running Shoe Gets Cutting-edge Tech Update

The Brooks Ghost is one of the most enduring models in the Seattle-based sports equipment company’s product offering. Now on its 18th iteration following its 2008 debut, the everyday training shoe just got an expected upgrade which arrives just months after the Ghost 18 hit stores.

The just-released Brooks Ghost Amp doesn’t stray too far from the Ghost features that fans have come to know, but instead “amps” them up with the addition of not one, but two new cushioning updates. 

The first is featured in the forefoot and is what the brand is calling SpringRamp, which makes its debut on the Ghost Amp. Like its name suggests, SpringRamp acts as a springy layer of the midsole which adds pop and forward momentum to runs. 

But the real underfoot upgrade comes in the form of a new foam compound dubbed DNA Hype, which also makes its first appearance on the Ghost Amp. With a combination of PEBA and EVA foams, the nitrogen-infused cushioning combines softness with energy return.

The upper of the shoe is even more streamlined than the Ghost 18, which allows the Ghost Amp to weigh in at just five grams less than the 18. The lightweight warp knit design is intended to be highly breathable while still being supportive enough to cradle the foot.

According to Brooks, the Ghost Amp is best for daily runs, uptempo workouts and just simply feeling fast.

Beloved as a daily trainer since its late-2000s debut, the Ghost remains one of Brooks’ longest-running models, outlasted by only the Adrenaline, Beast and Glycerin. The latest iteration, the Ghost 18, was released in April.
