Digital Fashion Academy & NASTEX Partner to Modernize Fashion

The Digital Fashion Academy (DFA) and Middle Eastern textile platform NASTEX have launched a strategic partnership. The alliance aims to modernize the regional fashion workforce by injecting artificial intelligence into traditional manufacturing.

This move follows a state-backed push for technological upgrades under the patronage of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. Technology is shifting rapidly, and by bridging virtual classroom training with industrial production, the organizers plan to prepare local designers for a highly digitalized global market.

At the center of this initiative is a newly launched training program. The “Fashion Design with AI” course teaches creative teams to integrate generative tech into their daily workflows. No technical background is required. Through live Zoom sessions and hands-on masterclasses, students will master advanced prompt engineering to generate digital collections and automated mood boards. They will use cutting-edge tools. Platforms such as MidJourney, ChatGPT and Adobe Firefly will help designers accelerate prototyping without replacing human artistry.

The alliance specifically targets youth, independent entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to scale up. These groups often struggle to overcome legacy technology barriers and build vital international connections. According to DFA’s executive team, mastering AI-driven design workflows is the key to success.

“True innovation happens where creativity meets industrial technology,” the executive team said. “Through this synergy with NASTEX, we are taking our accredited digital frameworks out of the virtual classroom and dropping them directly onto the beating heart of the textile sector. Empowering professionals to master AI-driven design workflows is the key to scaling sustainable growth, optimizing local margins and fostering global trade competitiveness.”

Digital tools will help modernize the sector while still respecting heritage crafts like traditional damask and brocade.

Joint workshops and educational showcases are featured prominently at the upcoming NASTEX International Exhibition on the Damascus Fairgrounds, July 18 through July 21. The event will connect international buyers directly with local artisans. DFA, which is accredited by the UK’s CPD Standards Office, plans to continue expanding its certified curriculum to bridge regional skill gaps well after the exhibition ends.

NASTEX is the first integrated textile exhibition in the Middle East and marks a major step in efforts to revive Syria’s textile industry. The event convenes manufacturers, investors, government officials, and technology providers from around the world to discuss how to modernize and rebuild the sector. Organizers say the exhibition builds on Syria’s long history as a textile hub along the ancient Silk Road and comes as the country works to recover and rebuild its economy after years of hardship.

The exhibition will spotlight new technology shaping the industry today, including automation, artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing tools. It will also highlight sustainable production methods and circular economy practices, reflecting the environmental standards now expected across global markets.

Beyond showcasing new equipment and ideas, NASTEX is meant to function as a working platform for investment and partnership—connecting Syrian manufacturers with international companies, machinery suppliers and industry associations interested in supporting the sector’s redevelopment.

Organizers expect more than 300 manufacturers and industry specialists to attend, along with official and commercial delegations from over 25 countries. Given Syria’s location at the crossroads of Asia, Europe and the Middle East, organizers see the event as a chance to reconnect the country with regional and global supply chains and reestablish it as a competitive manufacturing hub.
