Devin Booker and Nike‘s use of his signature shoes to pay homage to classic sneakers of the past is set to continue by invoking an 11-year-old Air Jordan collaboration that itself channels Chanel’s signature handbags.
The Nike Book 2 Just Book replicates the blue quilted leather look of Just Don’s Air Jordan 2 from 2015. Made in Italy, the latter kicks reference the Chanel 2.55 bag that debuted in 1955 and has since been reinterpreted numerous times and renamed as the 11.12. Vans also made the same reference earlier this year with a duo of Slip-Ons as one of several Chanel-derived releases.
Rendered entirely in blue with the exception of a red insole graphic and outsole heel, the sneaker features puts quilted leather on the top portion of its upper. Smooth leather then sits beneath with a suede Swoosh sitting in the middle and a tongue employing the same material.
Blue was the first of three monochromatic colorways for Just Don’s Air Jordan 2 series released more than three years. Two of them, blue and Arctic Orange, retailed for $350, while the Beach variant jumped to $650 and came in more elaborate packaging.
When the Air Jordan 2 originally released in 1986, the sneaker raised eyebrows for its $100 price, $35 more than the Air Jordan 1, which was driven by it being made in Italy to match Michael Jordan’s style off the court.
The Nike Book 2 Just Book will release June 26 through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $155.
