PARIS – Coperni has gone into receivership, as its founders work to disentangle themselves from fashion development platform Tomorrow London Group, the brand’s majority shareholder and exclusive distributor since 2019.
In a statement, Arnaud Vaillant, president of Coperni SAS, said a Paris commercial court on June 11 granted the company’s request for court protection following several months during which Tomorrow stopped paying the sums it owes to partners and suppliers.
“Deprived of these resources, Coperni was put under significant financial strain, along with its employees, even as the brand continues its international development,” he said. “By opening these proceedings, the court allows Coperni to keep creating, to protect its teams, and to build its future.”
Vaillant and cofounder Sébastien Meyer pulled out of Paris Fashion Week in March due to the dispute, saying they were determined to fully regain control of the label.

Shortly afterwards, Progetto 11, the holding company of e-commerce platform The Level Group, announced it was acquiring Tomorrow Group. The transaction saw the exit of the previous shareholders, including founder and chief executive officer Stefano Martinetto and Three Hills Capital Partners.
Tomorrow had previously sold two of the brands in its portfolio, A-Cold-Wall and the specialty London retailer Machine-A.
The Saks Global bankruptcy, combined with the wave of closures and restructurings affecting e-commerce platforms like Ssense, Matches and Farfetch, have rattled the industry and cut off once-lucrative sales channels for fashion’s middlemen.
Those changes, coupled with higher interest rates, higher prices and a cost-of-living crisis in Europe, have forced some European brands to shut and prompted agencies, distributors and brand owners to rethink how they do business.
Known for their love of technology and experimental approach to show formats, Vaillant and Meyer staged a show at Disneyland Paris featuring Kylie Jenner in a princess gown, and a performance that saw a nearly naked Bella Hadid spray-painted with a dress.
