THE WHAT? Beiersdorf has reported a 3.5% organic sales decline to €4.95 billion for the first half of 2026, prompting an 18-month turnaround strategy for NIVEA as its dermatological skincare brands continue to outperform.
THE DETAILS Published on 3 August 2026, the results showed a 4% organic sales decline in Beiersdorf’s Consumer division, with NIVEA sales falling 6.8% amid weaker market conditions, retail destocking and portfolio challenges. In contrast, the Derma business, including Eucerin and Aquaphor, recorded 7.8% organic growth, while luxury skincare brand La Prairie returned to growth in the second quarter. Beiersdorf announced plans to increase NIVEA’s consumer-facing investment, including an additional €100 million in media spending during the second half of 2026. The group also revised its full-year outlook to a low-single-digit organic sales decline, with an adjusted EBIT margin of at least 11.8%.
THE WHY? The results highlight the contrasting performance of mass-market skincare and specialist dermatological brands within the global cosmetics industry. Beiersdorf’s increased investment in NIVEA reflects the need to strengthen product innovation, consumer engagement and market competitiveness, while continued growth in dermatological skincare reinforces the commercial importance of science-led formulations and targeted skin concerns.
