THE WHAT? Avon has launched what it describes as the world’s first 3D bio-printed menopausal skin model, reinforcing its repositioning in Latin America as a women’s health and femtech-focused brand.
THE DETAILS Developed using cells from Brazilian women, the bio-printed skin model, named MenoSkin, is designed to map thousands of skin changes associated with perimenopause and menopause. Avon is using the technology for animal-free cosmetic testing and product development, aiming to improve the precision of skincare formulations targeted at menopausal consumers. To promote the initiative, Avon partnered with VML Brazil on a campaign featuring a microscopic print advertisement embedded onto a 5mm piece of lab-grown skin, displayed in an out-of-home installation in São Paulo. The project is supported by Natura’s broader menopause research efforts, including the EMBRACE study, which is investigating the biological, social and emotional impacts of menopause across Brazil through research involving more than 1,500 participants.
THE WHY? The initiative reflects growing industry interest in menopause-focused beauty and health solutions, while highlighting the role of biotechnology, alternative testing methods and scientific research in developing more targeted products for an underserved consumer demographic.
