Last week, Apple Martin celebrated her graduation from Vanderbilt University in Nashville with the whole family in tow: Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk, Chris Martin, Apple’s brother Moses included.
Taking in the sunny day, mom and daughter opted for two different takes on springtime hues and styles. Gwyneth, for one, wore a red collared jacket over a pale blue cotton maxi dress, styled with red sandals and black Wayfarers. Her pedicure was that same shade of tomato, too. Red and blue has become somewhat of an unexpected color combo du jour this spring, a fresh take on color blocking thanks to the runways of Prada, Celine, and Loewe.
Apple—the elder child of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin—wore a simple white cotton Vivienne Westwood Sunday dress under her graduation robe, paired with black bow ballet flats with a small heel, and matching sunglasses.
Her father and Paltrow’s former husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, instead opted for a sleek tailored black suit with a black polo underneath. Moses went down the more country collegiate look in a cream cable knit sweater and cornflower blue shirt, gray suit pants, and brown Chelsea boots.
Apple, who was picking up her diploma after majoring in law, history, and society, has quickly established a cool, feminine, minimalist sense of style. While the 21-year-old has picked out iconic pieces from her mother’s wardrobe (like this Calvin Klein number and this Alexander McQueen gown), she’s also often in Gen Z staples: low-rise denim, capris, floaty midi skirts, Mary-Janes. The graduate has already built up a serious fashion resume of her own, too: in 2024, she tapped Alessandro Michele for a custom sky-blue Valentino dress that she wore to Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris, and has since starred in campaigns for GapStudio and Self-Portrait.
