Alysa Liu graced the red carpet at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York, sporting a daring ensemble. The figure skater is nominated tonight for Best Breakthrough Athlete.
Liu was styled in a rich chocolate brown gown from Louis Vuitton. The floor-length style featured a dramatic cowl neckline and a low back. This risque detail allowed her accessories to shine, namely a beaded rosary-esque cross necklace that dangled behind her, swaying as she moved across the carpet.

This styling trick can be traced all the way back to 1964, when Shirley MacLaine first popularized the low-back dress and jewelry combo in her film “What a Way to Go!” Since then, numerous celebrities have tried their hand at the look. Similar ensembles were achieved by the likes of Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter.
When she’s not performing tricks on the ice or dominating the Winter Olympics, Liu trades in her ice skates for sneakers and sometimes heels. On the casual front, the athlete opts for kicks from Nike, namely Nike Cortez and the Tabi-esque split-toe Nike Air Rift. For formal events, you’ll spot Liu in classic, sleek pointed-toe pumps in black or breezy sandal heels hailing from Louis Vuitton, a brand of which she is an ambassador.

The 2026 ESPY Awards were held Wednesday at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, bringing the awards back to New York for the first time since 1999. “Saturday Night Live” cast member Marcello Hernández hosted, while Jalen Brunson and Shohei Ohtani led the nominees with three nods each. This year’s show also introduced three social-only categories, including Best Tunnel Fit, which put athletes’ pregame style in the awards mix alongside Best Celebration and Best Sports Card.
