Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere Talk Secret Meme Accounts, Overhead Lighting, and Clowns in the Latest ‘Off the Cuff’

If, on FX’s The Shards, they have the kind of will-they-won’t-they chemistry that would make anyone swoon, in reality, Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere—Vogue’s September 2026 cover stars—are about as goofily charming as two co-stars and friends can be.

In Vogue’s latest installment of Off the Cuff, Gerber and Gere talk about everything: music, trivia, being dorky in high school (that was Gerber, who graduated early because she ran out of classes to take), not really being into fiction (that’s Gere, who admits that Bret Easton Ellis’s The Shards was probably the first novel he’d read since college), and their go-to lies for getting out of plans.

On the subject of misconceptions, Gerber says she suspects people don’t think she has a sense of humor. (She’s just dry!) Asked what hill he would die on, Gere goes on a tirade against overhead lighting. (“I want lamps, I want side lighting, I want small pools of light around the room.”) Gerber’s most irrational fear? Clowns—all of them. And what would Gere be up to if he weren’t an actor? Possibly building furniture, or perhaps attending massage school. You know, normal stuff.

And that’s certainly not all, folks. To hear Gerber and Gere talk about what they do and don’t have in common with their characters in The Shards, the Topshop skirt Gerber wore to the opening of Dylan’s Candy Bar in Los Angeles, Grey Gardens, and Gere’s strong feelings about loafers, watch the full video above.
