Can Georgina Rodríguez’s Massive Ring Even Fit a Wedding Band?

Georgina Rodríguez’s engagement ring presents an unusual bridal dilemma: What do you put next to a 25- to 30-carat oval diamond?

According to the jewelers who spoke with WWD, the better question may be whether her wedding band belongs beside it at all.

Cristiano Ronaldo proposed with a classic three-stone design, but little else about the ring could be called conventional. Its oval brilliant center diamond is flanked by two smaller oval stones, creating a wide arrangement that stretches across much of Rodríguez’s finger.

The ring did not arrive with a spec sheet when Rodríguez announced the engagement in August 2025, so WWD asked jewelers to reverse-engineer it from a single Instagram photo. Briony Raymond put the center stone at 25 to 30 carats and the value anywhere from $1.5 million to $5 million. Logan Hollowell valued it $2.5 million to $5 million, and said the ring appeared to be set in platinum or 18-karat white gold, with four double-claw prongs doing the significant job of securing the center diamond.

Now reports say Rodríguez and Ronaldo may marry in Madeira on Saturday, though neither have confirmed the alleged wedding plans.

Still, the ring question does not need a confirmed aisle. If and when Rodríguez adds a wedding band, what can sit beside a three-stone setting of this scale without making the pairing look crowded or wearing down either piece?

According to Neil Dutta, managing director of jeweler Angelic Diamonds, the simplest answer is that a conventional band probably could not.

“With Georgina’s three-stone ring, I’d expect either a bespoke shaped band that curves around the center stone or an open design that leaves enough space beneath the setting,” Dutta told WWD. “A traditional straight wedding band simply isn’t designed to sit flush against a ring of this scale.”

“Flush” is the operative word here. A straight band needs clearance. If the center setting sits low, or the oval side stones reach too far across the finger, the band stops short, leaving a gap, or presses against the engagement ring and introduces a less romantic concern: wear.

A contoured band traces the engagement ring’s outline, while an open band removes metal where the center setting would otherwise collide with it. Either version would almost certainly need to be made around the exact dimensions of her engagement ring rather than selected from a display case.

Raymond, who made the initial 25- to 30-carat estimate for WWD, sees two options: build a band around the engagement ring or stop asking the two pieces to share a finger.

“With a three-stone ring of this scale, a straight band may not sit completely flush unless the setting has enough height beneath it,” Raymond said. “A softly curved, contoured or open band would work more naturally around the side stones.”

Her selections from her namesake New York-based jewelry atelier split the difference between restraint and Georgina-scale restraint. The $18,800 Regent Diamond Eternity Ring sets approximately 2.4 carats of baguette diamonds horizontally around the finger.

She also suggested the $12,650 Slim Sloan Diamond Ring, which borders a rounded gold band with 0.8 carats of diamonds, while the $24,800 pavé version covers the same silhouette with approximately 3.2 carats. The first leaves room for gold. The second does not.

“Georgina has such a confident sense of style, so I could imagine her choosing a diamond band with presence that still allows the engagement ring to remain the focus,” Raymond said. “Alternatively, she could wear the wedding band on the opposite hand, giving her the freedom to select something more substantial.”

Tacori co-owner and head of design, Nadine Tacorian Arzerounian, would sidestep the fit problem altogether. Instead of trying to squeeze another ring onto Rodríguez’s left hand, she envisions a wedding band that makes its own entrance on the right. “Rules are becoming irrelevant,” Arzerounian told WWD. “The most stylish women aren’t matching. They’re curating.”

Her most direct recommendation is Tacori’s $30,690 Classic Crescent RoyalT Oval Cut Diamond Eternity Band in white gold. More than five carats of oval diamonds encircle the finger, while smaller pavé diamonds sit along the inner face of the ring. Worn opposite Rodríguez’s engagement ring, the repeated oval shape could link the two pieces without asking them to share a finger.

“A dramatic oval eternity band worn on the opposite hand creates a beautiful connection to an oval engagement ring without competing with it,” Arzerounian said. “It feels collected, personal and fashion first.”

If she were designing for Rodríguez specifically, Arzerounian would push the right-hand idea further with a custom cluster of larger oval and round diamonds.

“The old rule was balance. The new rule is confidence,” Arzerounian said. “Women like Georgina don’t dim one extraordinary piece to make room for another.”

Dutta arrives at the same separate-hand solution as Arzerounian, but predicts considerably less competition between the two rings.

“The other option is to wear the wedding band on the opposite hand, rather than alongside the engagement ring,” he said, pointing to Victoria Beckham, who has rotated through major diamond and gemstone rings rather than committing to one permanent bridal stack.

“If Georgina does take that route, I don’t think she’d choose another statement ring,” Dutta continued. “I’d expect a timeless diamond eternity band or a refined row of oval or emerald-cut diamonds, something elegant enough to hold its own when worn separately.”

Angelic Diamonds suggested its 3,694.50 pound Lana Eternity Ring as an example. The two-carat design sets princess-cut diamonds around an 18-karat white gold band.

Separating the rings would also have a practical benefit. Metal and diamond settings can repeatedly strike one another when worn side by side, gradually wearing at the bands or prongs.

“With an engagement ring of this value, protecting it becomes just as important as how it’s worn,” Dutta said. “Separating the two rings reduces friction, helps preserve the precious metal and setting over time, and allows the engagement ring to be enjoyed exactly as it was intended.”

Hollowell, who previously examined the ring’s double-claw setting for WWD, is also voting for restraint, though her idea of understated still involves approximately 1.10 carats of diamonds.

“I’d recommend keeping it understated and timeless to beautifully complement her engagement ring rather than compete with it,” Hollowell said. “A piece like our Rose Cut Diamond Drop Ring would layer effortlessly alongside her ring, adding just the right amount of sparkle while maintaining an elegant, refined look.”

If Rodríguez wants more drama, Hollowell would move the engagement ring before adding it.

“Instead, I’d pair it with a beautifully understated wedding band and, if she wanted to embrace a bolder look, style her engagement ring on her other ring finger,” Hollowell said. “That creates the opportunity to build a more dramatic stack there while allowing each piece to shine on its own.”

The freedom to separate, rearrange or continue adding to the rings fits a broader shift in bridal jewelry. As WWD reported in June, couples are increasingly treating the engagement ring and wedding band as the beginning of an evolving bridal stack rather than a fixed, permanently matched pair.

“What today’s luxury consumer is looking for is a jewelry wardrobe,” Arzerounian said. “A bold oval eternity band reimagines the traditional wedding band as a stand-alone statement.”

Until Rodríguez reveals a wedding band — or even an exact wedding date — every design remains a forecast. Still, the jewelers agree that the most conventional answer may be the least likely one. Rodríguez could commission a contour, move the wedding band to her right hand or simply wear it alone. Squeezing a straight band beside an estimated 25- to 30-carat oval because bridal tradition says so may be the least Georgina option of all.
