The report highlights GEKA’s progress towards its validated climate targets, advances in sustainable product innovation, and commitment to transparency, supported by independently certified management systems.
GEKA, a global leader in make-up performance, packaging solutions and beauty accessories, has published its 2025 Sustainability Report at a landmark moment in the company’s history, as it celebrates 100 years of innovation and passion in color cosmetics and beauty accessories.
The report demonstrates how GEKA is embedding environmental and social responsibility across its business, while helping customers and suppliers reduce their environmental footprint and accelerate progress towards a more sustainable beauty industry. In recognition of these efforts, GEKA GmbH achieved an EcoVadis Gold rating, placing it among the top 2% of all companies assessed worldwide.
The report provides a comprehensive overview of GEKA’s performance across environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities, including:
- Environment: climate and energy, greenhouse gas emissions, water management, pollution prevention, resource efficiency and circular economy initiatives
- Social: employee health and safety, workforce development and training, human and labour rights, diversity and community engagement
- Governance: ethical business conduct, responsible sourcing, sustainability governance and compliance
At the heart of the report is GEKA’s climate journey. Guided by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated targets, the company has reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 63% between 2019 and 2025 putting it firmly on track to achieve an 80% reduction by 2029 and net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2050.
Since 2025, all three production sites (in Bechhofen, Elgin and Cotia)have operated using100% renewable electricity, avoiding approximately 3,908 tonnes of CO₂e a year.Additional energy-efficiency measures, including the conversion of around 950 light fixtures to LED technology, reduce electricity consumption by approximately 680,000 kWh annually – roughly equivalent to the annual power usage of 140 German households.
As a long-standing innovation leader, GEKA continues to translate sustainability ambitions into tangible product solutions. Its PCR fiber filaments represent the industry’s first recycled fiber for cosmetic brushes, while its mass, and formulation-compliant Post-Consumer Recycled Polypropylene (“PCR-PP”) is the first recycled material approved for primary cosmetic packaging in direct contact with the formulation. Offering performance equivalent to virgin material, it delivers a CO₂ reduction of up to 75% CO₂.
Within its Accessories business, GEKA increasingly uses sustainable materials such as FSC-certified wood and recycled plastics and continously reduces packaging to what is essential.
For customers, these achievements reinforce GEKA’s position as a reliable and transparent partner.
“Our customers expect transparency, measurable progress and a shared commitment to sustainability throughout the value chain” says CEO Jennifer Dean. “This report reflects both our progress and our determination to continue driving positive change across the beauty industry.”
That commitment is underpinned by internationally recognized management systems, independently certified across the company’s operations:
ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety at all three production sites, as well as ISO 50001 for energy management at the energy-intensive facilities in Bechhofen and Elgin.
Responsibility at GEKA extends beyond environmental performance. Comprehensive policies protect fair working conditions, prohibit child and forced labour and promote equal opportunity and non-discrimination. A dedicated Social Performance Team oversees compliance with these standards both within the company and throughout its supply chain.
