Costa Brazil Opens New York Fragrance, Skin Care Store

Costa Brazil has opened its first permanent store in New York City.

Located at The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards, the store marks the latest step in Costa Brazil’s comeback under the helm of founder and former Calvin Klein womenswear creative director Francisco Costa.

Customers will be able to shop the skin care and fragrance brand’s full suite of products, including bestsellers like the $198 Aroma Eau de Parfum and $98 Kaya Jungle Firming Body Oil, as well as attend monthly conversations with artists and collaborators, among other events.

“This is not a PowerPoint brand; Costa Brazil is a brand that came to fruition by exploring nature and collaborating with it in the best ways,” said Costa. “That’s why I think the store is important. There is an appetite for experiential retail right now, and this is an experiential store and a tactile brand.”

The designer-founder launched Costa Brazil in 2018, and the brand was later acquired by Amyris in 2021. When Amyris exited beauty in 2023, Costa bought the brand back via a $4.6 million bid, a spokesperson confirmed to WWD at the time. By early 2024, he had relaunched the brand.

“[Our community] is why we are still here. It is the only reason we survived after going through those hardships and putting the brand back together,” said Costa, adding that fostering a deeper connection with that community is a key aim of the flagship, which was designed in partnership with Alexander May. “We want to give people the opportunity to understand who we are. We love art. We love music, great design. The [Costa Brazil] world, it’s humble but it’s luxurious.”

The U.S. comprises the bulk of Costa Brazil’s business, though the brand ships globally via its direct-to-consumer website and roughly 13 percent of online sales come from Brazil. In terms of its retail footprint, Costa Brazil is at Bluemercury, online at Nordstrom, in hotels and soon to launch at Bloomingdale’s.

New products, including two additional scents, are also in the pipeline for 2026.

“We’re building a lifestyle brand, so the [products] are very much going to cover that,” Costa said.
