THE WHAT? Dyson has attributed reliability problems affecting the launch of its US$499 CameraJet AI-powered toothbrush to water seepage caused by a production issue affecting one batch of jet tubes.
THE DETAILS Dyson said a manufacturing process issue created the potential for water to escape from the CameraJet’s jet tube into other parts of the device, affecting the performance of a small number of products. The company isolated the affected inventory, resulting in the toothbrush temporarily disappearing from retailers after its September launch, but said production has resumed and shipments are being sent to retail partners. CameraJet represents Dyson’s first move into oral care following six years of R&D and combines a built-in camera and AI-powered real-time feedback with a mouthwash jet designed to target plaque.
THE WHY? The production issue creates an early manufacturing and quality-control challenge for Dyson as it attempts to establish oral care as its next major personal care category, following its successful expansion into premium hair styling technology.
