This week, the global cosmetics and personal care industry highlighted the growing convergence of strong financial performance, strategic acquisitions and AI-driven innovation, as global beauty companies expanded retail partnerships, strengthened manufacturing capabilities and invested in long-term growth despite ongoing economic and regulatory challenges.

Financial results dominated the week’s headlines, with several major beauty companies reporting resilient performance. Procter & Gamble delivered fiscal 2026 growth despite a challenging trading environment, supported by its beauty portfolio. L’Oréal reported strong first-half results, outperforming the global beauty market, while Unilever upgraded its 2026 outlook after volume growth in its Beauty & Personal Care division exceeded expectations. LVMH reported accelerating second-quarter growth, with beauty and selective retailing contributing to performance, and Galderma raised its full-year outlook following strong first-half sales.

Mergers, acquisitions and portfolio optimisation remained a key theme. Gerresheimer agreed to sell its Primary Packaging Plastics business to Apax Funds, strengthening its capital structure and sharpening its focus on higher-value healthcare packaging. Bain Capital agreed to acquire Vitabiotics to accelerate international expansion, while Symrise announced the acquisition of Floral Concept to strengthen its premium natural fragrance ingredients portfolio. Akums acquired Oriflame India’s manufacturing business, marking its entry into colour cosmetics, and Reckitt agreed to sell its Russian hygiene business to Arnest.

Retail expansion and market development continued across global markets. The Face Shop significantly expanded its US presence through a nationwide Walmart rollout, while Reliance Retail launched AJIO Beauty to strengthen its digital beauty strategy. Nykaa appointed a former Instamart executive to lead its quick commerce business, reflecting the growing importance of rapid delivery in beauty retail. India also eased foreign e-commerce regulations to encourage export growth.

Technology and research remained central to product development strategies. KT and Amorepacific deployed an AI-powered research assistant designed to accelerate cosmetics innovation and formulation. Watsons introduced a global brand colour initiative in partnership with Pantone, reinforcing brand consistency across international markets.

Brand development and product innovation also featured prominently. Coty expanded its refillable Burberry Goddess fragrance franchise, reinforcing the industry’s shift towards refillable premium beauty. Lush broadened its packaging-free beauty portfolio with new solid-format products, while Gap re-entered the fragrance market through the relaunch of Gap Beauty. Harper Beckham renamed her beauty venture following a trademark filing setback.

Leadership and organisational developments continued across the sector. Kiko Milano appointed a former LVMH executive to lead its operations across France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Legal and regulatory developments remained active. Johnson & Johnson proposed a comprehensive settlement aimed at resolving ovarian talc litigation, while a US judge questioned aspects of the scientific evidence presented in ongoing talc cancer cases. In China, Louis Vuitton secured a trademark victory that reignited debate around brand protection and intellectual property enforcement.

Taken together, this week reflected continued activity across financial growth, strategic acquisitions and scientific innovation, alongside retail expansion, regulatory developments and portfolio transformation. From AI-powered research and manufacturing investment to refillable product innovation and international distribution, companies continued to strengthen their competitive positions across the global cosmetics and personal care industry.
