Skechers is gearing up for its next chapter of growth with a new European distribution center.
Scheduled to be completed next month, Skechers noted that the nearly 2.5 million square-foot center located near the Liège airport in Belgium is in close proximity to its longstanding Milmort site, which will continue to support the brand’s existing teams during a transition period.
Skechers noted that the project is being developed in partnership with Weerts Group, a major player in European logistics real estate, and in collaboration with the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX), Société Wallonne des Aéroports (SOWAER) and Liège airport.
David Weinberg, chief operating officer at Skechers, said in a statement that for more than 23 years, the company has “placed its trust” in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of southern Belgium, as a strategic base for its European operations and this new facility is just the next chapter.
“This massive, automated and sustainable building puts us at the forefront of innovative distribution to the continent,” Weinberg noted.
Installation of the company’s automation system will begin in August, with the first phase set to be completed by the end of 2028. From goods receipt to shipping, the entire supply chain will be integrated into a completely redesigned logistics ecosystem. Skechers’ technological partner, KNAPP, will support this scaling up, the company noted.
Skechers added that automation at the new hub will not replace the work of existing teams on-site — instead, it introduces a balance. This balance makes it possible to keep operations in Belgium, despite the pressure of costs, and avoid a relocation scenario, the company said.
Pierre-Yves Jeholet, minister for the economy, industry and employment, added that in an increasingly competitive global environment, retaining and developing operations in the region is never a given. “This investment secures jobs, strengthens Wallonia’s position as a leading logistics hub in Europe and sends a clear message: international companies continue to choose Wallonia to grow and invest,” Jeholet said.
Since Skechers opened its first European distribution center as a 242,000 square-foot space in 2002, the company has gradually expanded the facility to meet growing demand for its product overseas. And with this new distribution center, Skechers is marking the next phase of its European expansion strategy.
In April, Skechers expanded its presence in Copenhagen with its first flagship destination in the Danish city. The 7,500-square-foot store joined four Skechers concept shops in Copenhagen, as well as 27 other locations across Denmark.
This is the latest project from Skechers since it officially went private in September following a May 2025 announcement that the third largest footwear company in the world inked a $9 billion go-private deal with Brazilian private equity firm 3G Capital — the biggest shoe buyout in history.
