FORMATIVE YEARS: Bottega Veneta is strengthening its cultural credentials by supporting “Peggy Guggenheim in London: The Making of a Collector,” a major exhibition opening at the Royal Academy of Arts in November.

The show will take a closer look at Guggenheim’s brief but influential London gallery, Guggenheim Jeune, which she founded in 1938.

Though it closed less than a year later in June 1939, the space, which was just a stone’s throw away from the RA, staged more than 20 exhibitions, including the first U.K. solo show of Vasily Kandinsky, the first exhibition of collage in Britain and a controversial contemporary sculpture exhibition.

The upcoming exhibition will showcase key works from Guggenheim Jeune’s original program, alongside additional pieces from the period, by artists such as Eileen Agar, Salvador Dalí, Barbara Hepworth, Rita Kernn-Larsen, Henry Moore, Piet Mondrian, Cedric Morris and Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Many of them are returning to London for the first time since their initial presentation.

Bottega Veneta said the partnership underscored its longstanding connection to hometown Venice and its heritage of craftsmanship, experimentation and creative freedom.

The tie-up with the RA also builds on Bottega Veneta’s ongoing collaborations with institutions including Punta della Dogana in Venice, Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, Bangkok Kunsthalle and the Pier Luigi Nervi Foundation in Venice.

“Peggy Guggenheim in London: The Making of a Collector” will run from Nov. 21 through March 14 before traveling to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York in April.
