The “bouche mordue” look—just-bitten lips, softly flushed—has become one of the most returned to beauty trends of our time, in various forms. Popsicle lips is the next, summer-ready iteration.
Over the years, we’ve painted on cloud lips and become obsessed with the blurred, matte look à la Nina Park, foraging through every style of lip pencil, sculpt, tint, oil, and stain to achieve that sensual style of pout. Popsicle lips riff on a childhood favorite, and the diffused effect that comes from sucking on a fruity lolly on a hot summer’s day. Without the stickiness or spillages, hopefully.
What are popsicle lips?
The popsicle lips look combines intense color and a gradient application with a glossy, almost wet finish that aims to replicate the same effect you’d get from taking a bite out of a strawberry or cherry popsicle. It strikes the balance between a barely-there gloss and full-coverage tint, with the color concentration at the center of the lips.

Why we love popsicle lips
It’s an imperfect and natural look that eschews any bold and high-drama aesthetic which would require precision and never-ending touch-ups. Applying a popsicle lip doesn’t need a deft hand—the more slap-dash, the better really—and you won’t need to worry about excessive layering and reapplication. Still, it makes enough of a statement to really par back the rest of your makeup, too. And so, you’ve got the perfectly effortless yet put-together summer pout.
