Stella McCartney Teams With Bugaboo for Multiyear Stroller Deal

LONDON — Dutch stroller specialist Bugaboo on Tuesday unveiled a multiyear collaboration with King Charles’ go-to green designer Stella McCartney.

Launching in September, the partnership includes strollers as well as accessories. It marks Bugaboo’s first major fashion collaboration in over a decade, following past tie-ups with Missoni, Marc Jacobs, Diesel and Kith.

According to Adriaan Thierry, chief executive officer at Bugaboo, with earlier capsules testing the waters, the Stella McCartney alliance is conceived as a long-term platform for fashion-driven design, conscious innovation, and durability.

“The goal for us was finding a partner who shared our instinct to question conventions — someone who challenges the categories they’re in, exactly like we do. Stella McCartney is a pioneer: she has spent her career proving that conscious design and innovation aren’t at odds with style, and that’s precisely the kind of thinking Bugaboo has brought to our category,” said Thierry.

The British designer viewed the project as an extension of her own approach to motherhood and design.

“As a mother, I want the things I design to reflect the world I want to build. Working with Bugaboo felt completely natural, as it’s a brand that shares our commitment to innovation and responsibility. This collection is for every mum who wants to bring her own individuality and playfulness into parenthood,” said McCartney.

Thierry highlighted that McCartney has brought a particular kind of confidence, “style without compromise, with a great sense of playfulness running through it,” to the table.

“She’s spent her career proving that a conscious approach to fashion doesn’t have to mean anything less elevated, less desirable, or less fun — and that’s the kind of tension we wanted to bring into this collection…As a mother herself, Stella also brings a deeply personal understanding of parenthood and a belief that becoming a parent should never mean losing your individuality, sense of humor or personal style,” he added.

At a product level, the collaboration is positioned at the top of Bugaboo’s pricing architecture as a limited-edition, premium offering. It brings together Bugaboo’s expertise in the category with McCartney’s creative vision and long-standing commitment to responsible fashion, with exclusive materials, finishes and details developed specifically for the collaboration.

On Bugaboo’s end, sustainability means longevity. Thierry said Bugaboo’s strollers are tested far beyond regulatory requirements and designed modularly so parts can be repaired or replaced.

The McCartney collaboration comes with even more conscious considerations: recycled polyester fabrics made from plastic bottles, water-free dye technologies, recycled aluminum, and bio-based components aimed at reducing environmental impact.

For more than two decades, the Amsterdam-born Bugaboo has positioned the stroller as an object of desire and status as much as a piece of hardware.

With the company in a strong growth phase, Thierry said the McCartney partnership is meant to reaffirm that messaging for a new generation of parents and raise brand visibility in the wider lifestyle and parenting space.

“Parents are multifaceted individuals, people whose new role doesn’t mean leaving behind their relationship with fashion, design or culture. They expect the products they choose for their children to reflect the same taste, values, and point of view as the choices they make elsewhere in their lives,” said Thierry.

Following the September launch, Thierry said both parties are already working on new materials, silhouettes and ways of rethinking what a stroller can “look and feel like,” as well as planning storytelling initiatives around their views on parenthood.

“Bugaboo originated from a design rebellion; that’s part of what made us who we are,” he said, adding that future collaborators will be chosen for alignment in values and “a dose of nonconformity.”

“We love to challenge what the parenting space is supposed to look like, and keep showing up in culture by connecting with the ones who are shaping it,” concluded Thierry.
