Images by Nico Perez
Nearly two decades of photographs will converge in Everything Is Nothing and Nothing Is Everything, Nico Perez’s ongoing body of work and photobook project, currently in development. Bringing together images made since 2010, the project draws from different moments in his practice and expands ideas first explored in his 2015 photobook Momentary, with new work continuing to be added as the project evolves.
The project has been, in Perez’s words, “in the making since I first picked up a camera,” driven by the belief that “beauty lies as much in everything that we can’t see as it does in what we can see.” Whether photographing people, places, or everyday encounters, he describes his process as “always looking for a connection, a truth… to the subject, to the person, to the moment, to the energy of the space in that time.” Working extensively with analog photography and hand printing, Perez regards each photograph as a physical object in its own right—one that remains intimately connected to the people and moments from which it emerges.
